The park's internal road will be closed to vehicles from the Queens Road gate clockwise to the Macquarie Street gate until 11am. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use a detour within the park. Vehicles will only be permitted to travel clockwise from the Macquarie Street entrance to the Queens Road entrance and within the Old Government House Loop.
The Queens Road gate will be open from 6am to allow vehicles to exit the park.

Greater Sydney Parklands (GSP) has finalised the Pesticide Use Notification Plan for Parramatta Park.
GSP uses pesticides across the parklands estate to treat pests, weeds and diseases. Pesticides are used only when necessary in an effort to protect the environment and park assets, while minimising the public’s potential exposure to chemicals.

The Final Pesticide Use Notification Plan has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Pesticides Regulation 2017 and the Pesticides Act 1999. The plan outlines when and how the community will be notified of pesticides in use across the parklands.

Some areas along West Domain Avenue will be fenced off from Monday 25 September - Friday 20 October for excavation works, ahead of the installation of light fittings. The light fittings are for light poles to be installed as part of the NSW Government’s Safer Cities program.

Works will be conducted in the evening to minimise impacts on park visitors. Targeted weeds include Bindii, clover and broadleaf weeds. Please look out for notification signage throughout the Park.

Work to install new irrigation at Old Kings Oval will begin in July 2023 through to late September 2023.
The new irrigation system will improve the oval’s resilience to extreme weather conditions, allow for more use by junior sport players and provide a more sustainable playing surface for community sport including for home teams, Parramatta District Cricket Club and Parramatta Lions Junior AFL Club.

The West Domain parking area and Queens Road Gatehouse entry will be closed to vehicles from Tuesday 14th March – Thursday 16th March while permanent gates are installed in both locations. To access the park via car, please use the Macquarie Street entrance and exit.
From 10am Friday December 23 the Queens Road Gatehouse entrance will be reopened. From this date pedestrian and vehicle access will resume during normal opening hours. Some temporary fencing and barriers will remain on site until early 2023.

From Monday 5th of December Governor Brisbane's Bathhouse will be closed to visitors for conservation works. These works will address slumping which has created an uneven surface and improve drainage to prevent future damage to the sandstone floor.
Work will include:
The conservation work entails the lifting of each flagstone to allow for repair and surface cleaning. Following this the underlying bedding will be levelled and the stones will be relayed back to their original position.

The area surrounding the Bathhouse will be fenced off for 3 - 4 weeks while the works are completed.

A severe weather event occurring across Greater Sydney is currently impacting conditions in our Park.
Parramatta Park may be subject to increased rainfall and high winds that could cause flooding, fallen trees and hazardous conditions for visitors. These conditions are on top of the recent significant rainfall across Sydney that has impacted the regular maintenance of our lawns, garden beds and bushland areas.
The safety of our park users is paramount. Please use caution during your visit to our Park during this time and check this page regularly for updates on closures.
Work begins w/c Monday 4 July to upgrade the sport fields and renew the basketball courts and cricket nets at Mays Hill.
The work will improve the sporting facilities and field at Mays Hill by increasing its resilience to extreme weather conditions and allowing more junior sport players to access the facilities throughout the week.
The field, basketball courts and practice nets will not be available to use from July through to November 2022 while work is underway. The field will remain out of use until the end of January (weather permitting) while the turf establishes.
Pitt St car park will also be unavailable during the construction period, however the Amos St car park will remain open.

June 2022 – Park-wide maintenanceProtecting Parramatta Park’s Grey-Headed Flying Fox community and caring for our Park’s natural environment is a priority for Greater Sydney Parklands.
Grey-Headed Flying Foxes are vitally important to the health of Australian plants and between 5,000-10,000 call our park home, with their camp situated in the trees along the banks of Parramatta River.
Grey-Headed Flying Foxes are also sensitive to heat stress – it can cause them significant harm and even death. To reduce future heat stress events in extreme temperatures, Greater Sydney Parklands is installing a canopy cooling system in six trees within the flying fox camp.
The canopy cooling system involves six wobbler head sprinklers fitted into each tree. They are spread between lower, mid and upper canopy and, when activated, will spray water to cool the flying foxes, mimicking a summer rainstorm.
The cooling system is being installed on Monday 23 August 2021 and will be complete within the week.
Greater Sydney Parklands is working closely with WIRES to manage this project and ensure minimal disruption to the flying foxes. WIRES has assisted in selecting the priority trees for the sprinklers and will monitor and manage the use of the sprinklers during heat stress events. Greater Sydney Parklands has also supplied a portable pump and twin spray unit to assist with reaching areas that the fixed system can’t reach.

The Queens Road gatehouse entry will be closed to vehicles from Tuesday 19 April 2022 as the gatehouse entry undergoes planned upgrades. The upgrades are part of stage one of the People’s Loop, which will improve pedestrian and vehicular access into the Park and respond to changes being made to traffic circulation from the Parramatta Light Rail Project.
Please be aware that during this time, vehicle entry to the Park will be via the Macquarie St entrance only.
Intensive Events Pty Ltd will be hosting Lunar Electric Music Festival at Parramatta Park on Saturday 4th June 2022 from 12pm to 10pm.
Some of Australia’s biggest artists in dance music will be performing alongside international acts to an expected audience of 10,000 people. The Festival will have local food trucks and mid-strength alcohol available.

Lunar Electric Music Festival at Parramatta ParkStage one construction for the new People’s Loop at Parramatta Park has begun along the Park Avenue boundary.
The People’s Loop is an exciting and innovative plan to remove cars, initially from West Domain Avenue within Parramatta Park, creating a wider and more generous pedestrian and cycling corridor, while providing carparking close to key park facilities.
We are working closely with the City of Parramatta and Parramatta Light Rail to minimise disruptions and complete the work as quickly as possible.

Recent rainfall events combined with the La Nina weather pattern is contributing to significant issues in Parramatta Park, including:
Excessive growth of grassed areas
Temporary closure of some areas
Significant flooding/ponding of water
Whole tree failures and branch failures (big and small)
Waterlogging of picnic areas and wedding sites
Regular maintenance of the Park has been disrupted due to these impacts, as resources have been redirected to assist with flood mitigation and clean up. Other factors at play include:

Sporting areas - a number of sporting areas will remain saturated until the end of April 2022, as they are reliant on natural drainage and evaporation for drying
Tree removal - fallen trees will be attended to when site conditions allow us to use machinery. Priority has been to ensure fallen trees are secure and pose no risk to visitors
Mowing - heights have been raised to minimise clippings and mitigate damage to the ground - some grassed areas may remain long until they dry out more
Continued rainfall will mean areas will take longer to service, with the focus on high-use and licensed areas at present
Major upgrades and maintenance projects have been delayed and will reopen later than expected
